“Children learn more from what you are than what you teach.”

Lorean

Hi! It has been exciting to see lots of new faces and wanted to take a second to introduce myself. Let’s start with the fact that I’m SO glad you’re here! My name is Lorean – my husband and I live in Indy and have 2 daughters. From 2008 to 2020 I taught students with all kinds of abilities from preschool through 10th grade. I’m a licensed k-12 special educator with an endorsement in early childhood education and licensure in middle school math. After a few years of teaching, I went back to school to earn my master’s degree in education. In teaching, I absolutely found my passion. I love nothing more than meeting a child just exactly where they are and finding ways to help them grow in confidence and subject matter.

I NEVER thought I’d leave this field… but having kids of my own was a game changer! I tried to go back to work after having my first daughter, and again after having my second. While the passion was still there, I felt so torn between my personal and professional lives.

I didn’t feel I was giving either my absolute best. I’m sure so many parents can relate. I made the decision to stay home with my daughters, but the passion I have for education doesn’t just go away.

One thing I love as a teacher and a mom is to take any given moment and turn it into a learning opportunity. Kids are sponges for learning. They are naturally so curious, and they are constantly problem-solving. A simple walk around the block presents so many chances to learn- observing the weather or signs of the season, to interacting socially with a neighbor.

My passion for education and my role as a parent has merged, and I look forward to sharing this with you. My goal is simply to share some places, events, and activities that have helped my family learn through play. I’m hoping this little community opens a space for parents to share their ideas and experiences with each other. Thanks for being here!
